I believe this necklace is fairly old, maybe 1930s to 50s?. I know next to nothing about pearls besides the recent research I've done for this necklace. I gather that it is not uncommon for an Akoya pearl necklace of this age to be made of less high-quality pearls, in which category I would say these fall.
