Handmade Copper Zodiac Symbol Pendants Description: The English word zodiac derives from zōdiacus, the Latinized form of an Ancient Greek word meaning “circle of little animals”. The name reflects the prominence of animals (and mythological hybrids) among the twelve signs in the sky centered upon the ecliptic, or the apparent path of the Sun across the celestial sphere over the course of the year. The paths of the Moon and visible planets also remain close to the ecliptic, within the belt of the zodiac. In western astrology and (formerly) astronomy, the zodiac is divided into twelve signs, each sign occupying 30° of celestial longitude. Because the signs are regular, they do not correspond exactly to the boundaries of the twelve constellations after which they are named. Throughout history, these twelve different signs have been interpreted to have strong importance and meaning to individuals whose date of birth coincides within each celestial time period. These Zodiac Symbol Pendants were handmade and hammered from copper, and then sealed with a protective coating to prevent rust and tarnishing. Not only do they boldly represent each symbol of the zodiac, but being they are made of copper they are believed by some to be strong conductors of celestial energy. Each pendant has a dark patina (antiquing) that has been applied by hand. They measure about 1.7 inches across. A leather neck cord is included with every pendant.
