Vintage mid-century headlight style prong-set colorless rhinestone earrings by Otto Muller. Clip-on closure. Signed 59, Muller’s Kaufbeuren Neugablonz factory number. Gorgeous on, and a timeless design. Muller was one of several million German-speaking Czech nationals who were expelled from Czechoslovakia after WWII; several thousand, including Muller, were skilled jewelry artisans who had been living in Gablonz and resettled in the Kaufbeuren region of what was then allied-controlled West Germany. Kaufbeuren soon became a major center of exceptional costume jewelry production. Muller himself produced jewelry for several of the French couturiers, including Christian Dior, Maryse Blanchard, and Cis. He also partnered with Max Muller—another exceptional Kaufbeuren jeweler.
