Vintage 1970’s Caravelle Set-O-Matic Day-Date Watch w/Blue Dial,Patina,SS Case

This vintage 1970’s Caravelle Set-O-Matic day-date has a lovely satin blue “T SWISS T” signed dial and the original lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a warm buttermilk hue. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL” followed by the personal inscription “CRAIG,””I LOVE YOU,””LOVE, JAMIE.” The crystal shows scratching. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this one is torqued too tight for me to remove. The automatic movement with quickset day and date functions keeps accurate time with both the day and date wheels rolling over as they should, albeit a bit early at approximately 11:10 pm. The quickset day function works by pulling the crown out to the first position and then turning it counterclockwise. The quickset date function works in precisely the same fashion with the exception of turning the crown clockwise until the desired date has been reached. After winding the non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an approximate 24 hour power reserve period. The crown winds a bit stiffly. Given the relatively weak power reserve and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown and approximately 38 mm including the crown. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness is approximately 11.5 mm. This watch comes on a generic “STAINLESS STEEL” and “CHINA” stamped bracelet that shows virtually no stretch. I’d guestimate that it may comfortably accommodate up to an approximate 6.75 inch wrist. Given the relatively weak power reserve and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
