Here are some possible uses: Identify and sort steel grades and metal alloys that contain iron, nickel, or cobalt. Identify/sort chrome plated items from polished aluminum, silver, and non-magnetic grades of stainless steel Identify/sort solid brass and bronze from plated steel items (handy in the antique market and hardware store) Identify/sort some types of costume (fake) jewelry, which often use steel alloy as the base material under the plating. Use as a very powerful magnetic pickup, not like those 1/2 pound jokes at the hardware store. Also handy for science experiments involving ferromagnetism The magnet insert is rated at 10 lbs pull force (this does not indicate lifting capacity). Dimensions are: 1/2" (12.5mm) diameter x 1/2" (12.5mm) tall head 1-3/4" (45mm) overall length 1/2" (12.5mm) diameter stainless steel split ring.
